It is important to note that this tutorial assumes that you know how to do three point perspective. I might do a tutorial on that if I get around to it....

First, consider the cylinder, a non rectangular object. looking down from the top, you see that it's a circle, which can be enclosed in a (badly drawn) square, as shown. note that the intersections (near the red dots) are right in the middle of the edge of the square.

Application to a three dimensional object. Although the angles change (the center was originally perpendicular), the distances of the intersections (red marks) along the side of the square remain the same. and because there is no perspective, the lengths of the sides of the squares are still the same...the ovals that form the ends of the cylinder should techincally be the same.

On to three point. Note that although lengths of the sides of the square are no longer the same, the proportion of the lengths denoted by the red dots are STILL the same. No matter how long or short the side of the square has become, the circle still intersects at the middle of the side of the square.

Okay. now to fun stuff. Here is a crappy pic of a torso and head....I'm too lazy to make it any more complicated than this, but I'm sure that you can apply it to the rest of the body. right? >_> Okay. Note that I did this without perspective. I simply encased the head and torso in rectangular prisms....I noted general areas of interest/intersection. The head for example takes the middle third of the width of the torso...



The head and torso in three point. note that the proportions along the indiviual lines are roughly the same as in the no perspecitve version. Really, you dont have to take note of every little intersection, or break it up into too many rectangular prisms. Minimum effort is key. If you can eyeball it, then just do it that way. That's the most I can say.
